This was my first try at doing a wash on a figure:
Customs By Blogness 20120827192620
Customs By Blogness 20120828111740

I think it came out pretty good. Kinda has a pewter look to it.

I tried it again with a little different technique and came up with this:
Customs By Blogness 20121105204850
Customs By Blogness 20121105205354
Which I think came out much better.

Questions? Comments?

I'm a big wash user/maker myself so I like it. The second one came out really crisp. Good work. Do you make your own or use pre-mixed washes?

These are both pretty dam sweet. The second one is the best but I do still like the first one, the wash gives it a worn/damaged look.

I dig it!!

My words exactly, very nicely done! The second one/different technique, I think it looks amazing. Great work on both, brother!

Thanks guys. I'll have to take a pic of them side by side to show what he looks like before and after combat. Heh.

Asphalt- I make my own washes with some paint, clear coat and water. I don't really see any sense in buying them pre-made because it's pretty much just watered down paint.

Stealth Grenadier with "MAX AMMO!" heh heh.

All right so it's not really a custom. I didn't do anything but give him some firepower.

Go! Go! Hayabusa!

Still have a few colors to do. I'm thinking brown camo, silver and possibly stealth blue like Fishy did. The guy in the front is a WIP. He may end up being the silver one.

Thanks.
I was lucky enough to find most of the weapons in a lot of bloks I bought for some TMNT figs. When I started putting the 'busa's on display I realized I had a weapon in almost every color. I need something better for the purple and yellow ones though.

Mikey!
Customs By Blogness Mikey4
ES wanted to know how I stored the weapons back there. I wish there was room for 2 'chuks, oh well. All I did for Mike and Don was drill holes in their shells and insert one of those clips, 2 in Mikey's case, to hold the weaponry. Leo has a lightly modded Lego scabbard.
This solution for Mikey leaves a little to be desired and I never figured out a solution for Raph. He typically keeps his sai on the front of his belt but, well, they are waaaay too big for that. I think Quantum was trying to work on something with his.

The shell, torso and head are all part of the original figures from 2003.
Thanks!

Simple Thor+WoW pop-n-swap:

Customs By Blogness 20130325165935
I decided to fix the recycled LoKA limbs and overall wimpyness of MB's Thor by using some WoW parts. I think he looks more size appropriate next to the other Avengers, but he definitely needs a bigger hammer. If memory serves me well, LOKA had an excellent blok scale Mjolnir in a pic somewhere that I might be able to get my hands on.

I also may paint some detailing on the torso but I kinda like the simple look of it as is...

Comments? Suggestions?

Oh, and that was my first attempt at making a... light box? Is it? I just used some printer paper, tape, "t-pins" and my cubicle wall. Slow day at work...

Dammit, I still need to get a Thor fig!

He looks great with a WOW body. More imposing. I like the simple chest but I feel it needs at least some detailing. I love the movie costumes and this would look a bit too plain next his peers.
Also I think the hammer is fine as it is, it wasnt very big in the movie. In fact I would say its more in scale in the WOW fig that its original owner.

Head swap and some weapons:

Epic pose shot:

In that pic you can see I just strapped a holster to a standard backpack to hold the sword.

I wanted to give him a back story before posting it because he looks like he deserves one but I just can't come up with anything interesting enough.

I created this just messing around with some of the figs I recently acquired. I'm contemplating doing a little bit of paint detailing, but leaning more towards leaving it as is.

Really nice work dude. Loving the Thor (going to have to do that myself), and the New Goblin head swap looks fantastic! Question: where are you getting the web gear holsters and stuff? I freakin NEED some of those.

Thanks bros.

Quantum, the holsters and sling are from minifigcat.com/shop . They have, IMO, the best selection of fire power for arming your creations. They just added a bunch of new stuff too. Payday can't come soon enough Laughing

sick combo, I've got some of the green goblin and his head never seems to be the right proportion for a body. Great combo and nice accessories, would like to see a back shot with that sword holder... Very Happy

oops, never mind, I see it on the weapon stand. nice idea!

Here's another couple of customs I just finished 5 minutes ago:

Customs By Blogness Irongr10     Customs By Blogness Irongr11

A little pop'n'swap plus some black wash to get the different shades of red to look the same (other than the shoulders) and a Frankengun.  I've been wanting to do that gun for a while.
