Re: Customs By Blogness
Thanks, Asp. That gun will be part of my 2nd delivery to DR along with (hopefully) 1 or 2 more custom weapons.

Re: Customs By Blogness
Thanks engineerio. Nice job with your Iron Patriot fig BTW. Judging by the current bid, I say make an army of em!
The parts were all red to begin with but the Grenadier bits and 'busa head were very "fire engine red" compared to the iron man torso. I made a black wash with 2 parts Testors acrylic black, 1 part clear sealer and 4-5 parts water. If mixed just right you get a "milky" consistency. I just brushed that over all the fire engine red bits a few times, (avoiding the arc reactor on the chest) let it dry and clear coated it with matte clear in a can.
I was expecting to have to repaint the different reds before doing the wash so they would all match but, to my surprise, the wash alone was enough to get them to look like they were the same color.

One I finished last week:
Looking back, I probably should have put some orange on his arms somewhere and I think the "blades" on his shoulders should have been a darker silver.

Thanks. I'm glad you guys approve. I've got a couple more with similar paint schemes in the works. That neon paint takes about 30 coats (no exaggeration) before it looks good, so it's pretty time consuming but I love the result.

Halo 2 (or 3) Master Chief:
I wanted to sculpt some shoulder armor that matches the Halo 2/3 in game armor but then I'd have to find (or make) a suitable olive green paint. I realized when looking at reference pics that the MB Spartan IV's are based on the ones from Halo Wars, not Halo 2 or 3 as I previously thought.
The torso came from the Security Spartan, the head is a slightly repainted H4 Spartan and the rest of the parts are slightly repainted olive green Spartan IV parts.

It's been a few months since you've seen the beginning stages for this guy...
"Huh!? What was that noise!?"
Snake!? Snaaaaaake!!!
I think this is the best custom I have done to date. I finally got somegood awesome sculpting putty, Aves, and was able to get the hair exactly the way I wanted it to turn out. The only gripe I have with this guy is that the gray didn't stay as dark as it was before clear coating it.
